Oral Health Care Tips – Mississauga Dentists
Despite the fact that there are many dental care services located in the Mississauga area offering to remove plaque and bacteria, some people still find that they have problems with their teeth. A big part of this reason is that many people don’t visit the dentist as often as they should. There are also so many things they decide not to do when it comes to keeping their teeth clean. What most of these people donÕt know is that there is more to dental health than brushing their teeth twice a day. Here are top tips that will help you get white, cavity-free teeth:
Brush your teeth twice a day
It is a good idea to brush your teeth when you wake up in the morning and before going to bed. Some people even brush their teeth right after they eat every meal. This is even more effective for keeping your teeth as clean as possible. Brushing in the morning will help remove plaque and bacteria that accumulate while you are asleep.
On the other hand brushing before going to bed at night is important because saliva (which keeps off plaque) dries up when we are asleep. You can also floss your teeth right before you go to bed so you can pick out all the food that’s stuck in-between your teeth. Brush your teeth for at least 2 minutes. Hold the toothbrush at a 45-degree angle and clean all your teeth.
After your done brushing your teeth, dental floss helps clean in between teeth where plaque accumulates. It may be a good idea to floss after brushing your teeth as this removes any plaque from the areas between teeth. Remember that about 90% of dental problems arise from areas between the teeth. This is why it is important to floss properly and on a daily basis. Most people never floss their teeth which is what makes them get oral problems.
Clean your tongue
Bacteria can accumulate on your tongue especially at the back of the tongue and lead to bad breath. Therefore, clean your tongue using a tongue scraper every morning to freshen your breath and remove any plaque. You can also brush your tongue every time you brush your teeth. Just treat your tongue like it’s any other tooth in your mouth and brush it regularly.
Change your toothbrush on a regular basis
Ensure that you change your toothbrush every 2-3 months for dental hygiene. If you donÕt do this, then bacteria will accumulate on the toothbrush bristles and you will end up transferring the bacteria to your mouth. You can get a brand new toothbrush right after your routine dental check-ups.
The good thing about using mouthwash is that it reaches areas where your brush cannot reach. Use mouthwash twice daily that is once in the morning and at night before going to bed.
